Women in League focus of weekend
NORTHERN Pride will celebrate ‘Women in League’ round with a full day of rugby league at Barlow Park on Saturday 8 August, culminating in Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership clashes against the Brisbane Tigers.
The event, presented in partnership with FNQRL, will recognise the contribution of women across all levels of the game, including players, coaches, volunteers, officials, mums, grandmothers and lifelong supporters.
Organisers say it will be one of the biggest days on the Northern Pride calendar, with the FNQRL women’s grand final and a full schedule of junior and senior rugby league fixtures leading into the Northern Pride matches against the Brisbane Tigers.
Gates open at 8.30am, with the under-13 girls grand final kicking off at 9am, followed by the under-15 girls grand final at 10.25am and the under-17 girls grand final at 11.50am. The BMD Premiership match between Northern Pride and Brisbane Tigers starts at 1.20pm, before the Hostplus Cup fixture at 3pm. The day concludes with the FNQRL A-grade women’s grand final at 5pm.
The event will also feature Women in League round celebrations and acknowledgements, FNQRL women’s finals throughout the day, food and bar vendors, family-friendly activities, giveaways and a double-header featuring Northern Pride’s senior teams.
Northern Pride said the event celebrateD the female rugby league pathway “from young girls chasing their first premiership to elite athletes representing Northern Pride in the BMD Premiership”, highlighting the role women played in shaping the future of the game.
The club said: “This is more than just a game day, it’s a celebration of the women who have shaped our game, inspired our communities and continue to drive rugby league forward across Far North Queensland.”
The celebrations will run from 9am to 7pm at Barlow Park, bringing together junior grand finals, senior representative rugby league and Women’s in League round activities in a single day of competition.
