Veterinarians Brooke Burnett and Alice Batty, along with vet nurses Georgia Shaw and Madison George, will tackle the K2PD trail marathon on August 17, a gruelling course that stretches from Kuranda to Port Douglas.

The group launched a GoFundMe campaign titled 'From Tails to Trails' with an initial fundraising goal of $2000, which they quickly surpassed.

Now, they are hoping to raise the bar and reach a new target of $3000 with all proceeds going towards helping local dogs in need.

“We were already training for the relay when Brooke said: ‘Why don’t we do it for a cause?’,” Ms Shaw said.

“We work closely with NQAR and thought it was the perfect opportunity to support the work they do.”

NQAR operates throughout Far North Queensland, assisting with rehoming, desexing, vaccination and medical care for surrendered and stray dogs.

The organisation relies on community donations and volunteer foster carers to help rehome animals into safe, loving homes.

“We’re grateful to be able to contribute through the preventative care and procedures we offer,” said vet Dr Brooke Bennett.
