$60m centre underway
WOOLWORTHS is forging ahead with its new $60 million shopping centre at Trinity Beach after years of delays.

It will be constructed on a largely vacant site at the corner of Trinity Beach Drive and Navigation Rd, adjacent to the Captain Cook Highway.
Woolworths said the new centre was planned to bring every day convenience closer to residents of Trinity Beach and surrounds.
The new retail centre will include:
A full-line Woolworths supermarket (3800sqm)
Fifteen speciality stores and services
Six direct-to-boot Woolworths grocery collection bays for goods ordered online
267 car parks with shade coverings
Caravan and trailer parking
Four dedicated electric vehicle charging car parks.
A Woolworths spokesman said the supermarket giant was “in the final stages of appointing a builder for the project, one that will be a convenient and modern shopping destination for locals”.
“We’re also in the process of finalising a mix of tenancies to be part of the development across retail, food and other amenities,” he said.
“We’ll continue providing updates to the community in due course.”
The corporation said the project was temporarily put on hold “due to difficulties in the construction market”.
“We are now happy to report that we have partnered with a builder and are making excellent progress on commencing construction,” it said in an update.
“We are fully committed to creating a high-quality centre that will be a great asset for the Trinity Beach community.
“We are aiming to start construction in early 2026 and we expecting the building process to take 15 months.”
The number of construction jobs and operational jobs is unknown at this stage.
While Woolworths has not named the building contractor, Insitu Group has been advertising in CLN for experienced local subcontractors in precast (tilt-up and off-site), electrical, hydraulics, concrete (excavation, formwork, reinforcement, pumping, supply and placement), carpentry, structural steel, plastering, blockwork, waterproofing, tiling, hardware supply, metal cladding, roofing and asphalt services. Quotes are due on September 24.
Cr Brett Olds (Div.9) said the centre was welcomed, especially after three years of legal wrangles through the courts.
He said his doorknocking campaign throughout Trinity Beach revealed majority of support for the supermarket and other shops. “It’s convenient and I will use it instead of going to Clifton Beach. Also a lot more houses are going in at Trinity Beach,” Cr Olds said.
