US Marine jets roar into Cairns
FOUR United States Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft will fly over the Cairns Esplanade before landing at Cairns International Airport this afternoon (Thursday, 25 June).

The aircraft are transiting through Cairns following the completion of exercises and activities in the Northern Territory.
The four F-35B Lightning II aircraft are scheduled to conduct a low approach over the Esplanade before arriving at the airport at 3.15pm on Thursday, 25 June.
Also visiting Cairns are one United States Marine Corps KC-130J Hercules aircraft and two MV-22 Osprey aircraft, which will arrive and depart at various times over the coming days.
The KC-130J Hercules arrived in Cairns at 4.30pm on Wednesday, 24 June, while the two MV-22 Osprey aircraft are scheduled to arrive at 2.30pm today (Thursday, 25 June).
According to the Department of Defence, the KC-130J Hercules is scheduled to depart on Friday, 26 June, followed by the four F-35B Lightning II aircraft on Saturday, 27 June. The two MV-22 Osprey aircraft are due to leave on Sunday, 28 June.
The Department of Defence has advised residents to expect potential aircraft noise during the arrivals and departures.
Defence said flying schedules remain subject to change due to air traffic control requirements, weather and operational availability.
The department said noise reduction and environmental considerations were important factors in planning and conducting military flying activities.
The aircraft movements mark the conclusion of the United States Marine Corps' activities in the Northern Territory before the aircraft continue their transit from Cairns.
