A Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service spokesman said new locations had been added to the list of exposure sites for the measles outbreak, including Earlville Shopping Town, Edmonton and Cairns Hospital.

“Members of the public should be alert for signs and symptoms of measles, particularly if you have been at the locations listed on the Queensland Health website at the specified times: www.bit.ly/47TqdKg

“Be on the lookout for symptoms such as fever, tiredness, severe cough, red/sore eyes, runny nose, a blotchy rash that spreads from head/face to rest of body and white spots in the mouth

“Although the most well-known symptom of measles is a blotchy red rash, this is not usually the first symptom. Measles symptoms may appear seven-18 days after exposure, typically around day 10.

“If you were at the above locations at the listed dates and times, please look out for symptoms for up to 20 days afterwards.

“If symptoms develop, call ahead to your GP – don’t wait in shared areas – or call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for advice on what to do and to get a referral for a measles test.”
