Turn unwanted trash into treasure
WANT to give old items a second life, learn new skills, snap up a bargain or simply enjoy a free day out with the family?
Residents and visitors are invited to the 2026 ‘Trash to Treasure’ event on Saturday 8 August, where creativity, sustainability and community come together for a fun-filled day of hands-on activities, local stalls and entertainment.
From learning how to repair and repurpose everyday items to finding unique bargains at the buy back shop (37-51 Lyons St, Portsmith), the event is packed with ideas to help households reduce waste, save money and make the most of the things they already have.
Visitors can explore interactive workshops, browse local market stalls, enjoy live entertainment and discover practical ways to give old items a new life instead of sending them to landfill.
One of the day’s highlights will be the ‘Reuse, Rethink, Repurpose Competition’, where local schools and early learning centres will proudly display imaginative creations made from materials that would otherwise have ended up in landfill.
