Turn town a shade of blue
CHARITABLE folk are being called to lace up their sneakers and walk in solidarity with Queenslanders living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) this Sunday, July 27.

Returning to the city for only the second time since its 2022 debut, MND Queensland’s Walk to Defeat MND will be held at McKenzie Street Parkland, offering 1.5km and 3km routes for participants to walk or roll in support of people battling the terminal disease.
MND is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the nerve cells responsible for movement, eventually impacting a person’s ability to speak, swallow and breathe. In Australia, about 2000 people live with MND and roughly 300 of them are in Queensland, according to the MND and Me Foundation.
With no known cure and no ongoing state government funding, MND Queensland relies heavily on fundraising events like this to deliver essential care and support services across the state. “This event is a meaningful way to stand with Queenslanders impacted by MND and to make sure no one faces this disease alone,” said local MND advisor and support coordinator, Justine O’Neill.
“Every step walked, and every dollar raised, helps improve lives.”
Participants will receive a free event T-shirt and can also enjoy face painting, raffles, local stalls and a dog-friendly atmosphere complete with a top dog award. Community members can register solo or as part of a team, and those unable to attend in person are encouraged to support the cause online.
