Tropical style on the catwalk
THE NicNak Shed Fashion Parade has always been one of the Douglas Shire’s most popular and fun events and this year’s afternoon of colourful clothing was nothing short of stunning.

This year was, in fact, the 14th annual running of the big day.
I popped along, to the Pullman Sea Temple Resort on Saturday, August 30 to soak up the setting, the models, the clothing, the atmosphere and, of course, the amazing audience, who cheered the girls and one dashing gent, as they strutted the catwalk to a killer 80s playlist.

Canapés and bubbles on arrival set the scene perfectly and kept guests smiling before the show began.
I hear also there is a sneaking suspicion that a few more glasses of bubbles may have been enjoyed throughout the day, but that’s yet to be confirmed before going to print.
Jill, the much-loved regular MC for this annual event, once again did a fabulous job and showed her knack for choosing just the right song to match each model.

A total of 15 models graced the runway, all of them proud locals including Port Douglas Community Service Network (PDCSN) staff, volunteers, local business women and the above-mentioned male model, on the runway, with his two little pooches.
All garments displayed were generously donated by locals and every purchase made on the day helped save an item from landfill.

“It is a timely reminder that the clothing industry is the second largest polluter in the world,” said NicNak shed manager Jo Westgate.
“We watched the catwalk come to life in the tropical sunshine, framed by lush gardens and good vibes,” she said.
“Milan, New York and London would be at a loss to find such an amazing setting for a fashion parade.

“Those attending were entertained by our fabulous local models as they showcased stunning pre-loved couture, proving that fashion can be both glamorous and eco-friendly.”
The runway featured three categories: day wear, resort wear and evening wear.
The highlight was without doubt the resort wear section, where 15 stunning Camilla dresses stole the spotlight and, without doubt, Port Douglas was the ideal setting to showcase these beautiful garments, with each piece auctioned off in a silent auction.

Overall, the NicNak Shed Fashion Parade was a resounding success, raising over $5000 for the Port Douglas Community Service Network.
I’m off to perfect my catwalk technique for next year, so for now it’s Gazza signing out.
