Triple treat of fireworks
A TRIPLE treat will welcome in the New Year across the Cairns region on 31 December.

The region will be extra special as Cairns counts down to 2026 and commemorates 150 years since the city’s founding.
A Cairns Regional Council spokeswoman said the exciting evening on the Esplanade would feature a free family concert, family fireworks and a dazzling midnight fireworks display promising a night full of fun, music and festive cheer for all ages.
“The festivities begin at 5pm on the Cairns Esplanade at the Western Events Lawn, where an all-local line-up of talented performers will bring vibrant energy to the stage,” she said.
“Bring a blanket, some chairs and your best dancing shoes as we come together by the waterfront for an evening of community celebration.
“Throughout the night, be sure to come and say hello, collect a commemorative flower or pick up a hard copy of the 2026 Cairns Celebrates 150 Years program, officially launching a year dedicated to honouring the rich history and bright future of Cairns.
“At 8.30pm, turn your eyes to the sky for the much-loved family fireworks, filling the Esplanade with colour and excitement.
“Then, as midnight approaches, join the crowd to welcome 2026 with a brilliant midnight fireworks display, creating a memorable finish to this special evening.”
Other celebrations will be at Edmonton’s Walker Road Sports Precinct hosting 8.30pm family fireworks and plenty of space to relax.
Meanwhile, Palm Cove’s iconic jetty will once again offer its own 8.30pm family fireworks, providing a stunning beachfront backdrop for New Year’s festivities.
