In a club statement, Edge Hill United said Lewis Marano had been “an important part of the squad this season” and had earned “enormous respect across the club through his attitude, commitment and performances on the pitch”.

“Everyone at Edge Hill is right behind Lewis as he begins his recovery journey,” the statement said.

“We know his determination and resilience will carry him through this challenge and we look forward to seeing him back doing what he loves in the future.”

Head coach Ryan Murray also shared his support for Marano following the injury.

“I’m absolutely gutted for Lewis. He’s been an absolute pleasure to coach and was quickly becoming a key player for this squad,” he said.

“His attitude, work ethic and desire to improve every single day are second to none. He’s a strong kid mentally and physically, and I’ve got no doubt he’ll attack this recovery the same way he approaches his football, with determination and resilience.

“The whole club is behind him.”

The club said the “entire Tiger community” stood with Lewis and the Marano family as he begins his recovery.

The injury is a significant setback for Edge Hill United as the club continues its season, with teammates, coaches and supporters rallying around the senior player during his rehabilitation.
