Tigers stay at top of ladder
NORTH Cairns thrash Hawks, City Lions beat Crocs, while Cutters defeat Saints.

Manunda Hawks 01.01.07 defeated by North Cairns Tigers 16.03.99
TOP-of-the-table North Cairns Tigers remain undefeated following a dominant display over the improving Manunda Hawks at Cazalys Stadium last Saturday.
The Tigers are without doubt favourites to take home the silverware again this season with their sights firmly set on back-to-back premierships come September, and it’s hard to imagine another team upsetting those plans, but finals footy is a funny thing.
Tigers playing coach Luana Healey continues to shine and lead the way, kicking four goals against the Hawks, with young gun Ella Johnston – who impresses with her physicality in the contest, slotting three.
Mikayla Pearce was the sole goal scorer for the Hawks.
Port Douglas Crocs 00.01.01 defeated by Cairns City Lions 01.08.14
IT’S fair to say Cairns City Lions were probably considered underdogs as they headed up the highway to face Port Douglas at the Croc Pit on Saturday.
Crocs skipper, Caity McPhee, setting a record for the most number of disposals in an AFL Cairns women’s match, clocked up a ridiculous 54 touches, and Ella Jones not far behind, with 44 disposals and seven tackles.
But the Crocs failed to make an impact on the scoreboard.
Jess Fatnowna and Lusa Wagia were in fine form for the Lions, notching up 27 and 22 disposals respectively with the Lions’ Denisha Chilman kicking the only major for the match.
The Crocs sit just inside the top 4 on the ladder with the Lions leaving the door ajar for a possible finals berth in September.
Cairns Cutters 05.05.35 defeated Cairns Saints 04.04.28
OH, what could have been for the last placed Cairns Saints, almost notching up their first win of the season against second placed Cairns Cutters.
The Saints dominated the scoreboard in the first half, leading by 11 points at the main break, until the Cutters found form in the third quarter adding three goals to their tally to the Saints none.
It was a fierce contest at Fretwell Park with a tight result that not many would have predicted, as the Cutters managed to protect their narrow lead in the last quarter to get up by seven points.
Alessia Francese lead the way for the Cutters with 27 disposals and a goal while Isabella Turner for the Saints had 20 touches and teammate Sophie Raynor kicked two majors.
