Teen’s dream at parklands
CAIRNS singer-songwriter RINA will fulfil a teenage dream by opening for New Zealand band SIX60 at Munro Martin Parklands on Friday, 2 October.

The First Nations artist will perform before a hometown audience after years of listening to SIX60’s music as a teenager.
“I was so excited to find out I would have the opportunity to open for SIX60,” RINA said.
“I have been listening to their music since I was a teenager, so to now be sharing a stage with them in my hometown of Cairns is something I am beyond grateful for.”
RINA will perform alongside two close friends, playing guitar and singing, with the set focusing on connection, storytelling and Country.
“I want people to feel present in their bodies when they listen to my music and to feel connected to themselves and to Country,” she said.
“For me, music is about creating a space where people can slow down, listen and feel something. I want it to feel like home, family and having fun together.”
RINA said the performance would also give her an opportunity to share a personal message with the audience.
“Honestly, it’s a message I have needed recently too – to breathe, to respect Country and to keep speaking your best and most honest truth, whatever that may be.”
Known for blending soulful vocals with influences shaped by growing up surrounded by music in Arnhem Land, RINA said performing on a larger stage would provide an opportunity to share songlines and personal stories.
“Sharing our songlines and the stories of our lives is such a vulnerable thing to do,” she said.
“To have the chance to do that on a larger scale is truly amazing.”
SIX60 will perform at Munro Martin Parklands on Friday 2 October, supported by RINA and Kurilpa Reach. Gates open at 5pm, with the support acts beginning at 6pm.
