TAS maths teams add up
TRINITY Anglican School (TAS) students have been crowned Queensland state champions in the primary division of the prestigious Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers (QAMT) competition.

The TAS primary team of Celia Pramana, Hanako Hamaoka and Hugh Haldane progressed through district and regional rounds with a succession of wins before being crowned state champions in the finals.
The team’s success is the culmination of months of preparation and teamwork under the guidance of ‘supercoach’ Patrick Williams.
TAS also performed strongly in the secondary division, where students Benjamin Limpus, Zachary Limpus and Felix Solomon advanced through the district and regional rounds with solid wins to finish fifth overall.
TAS principal Paul Sjogren said the results highlighted the depth of academic excellence and enthusiasm for mathematics across the Cairns region.
“We’re incredibly proud of our students and staff for their dedication and teamwork. To have both our primary and secondary teams perform at such a high level shows the strength of STEM education in our community,” he said.
“Cairns should feel justifiably proud of its academic standards as St Andrew’s Catholic College finished second to TAS in the primary division.”
QAMT’s annual competition attracts hundreds of teams from across the state and challenges students with problem-solving, logic and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
