Students learn from master
CAIRNS audiences were treated to a spectacular afternoon of music last Saturday as internationally acclaimed pianist Roman Rudnytsky performed with the Cairns Concert Orchestra and Cairns Youth Orchestra at Cairns Eisteddfod Hall.

The highlight was Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, delivered with Mr Rudnytsky’s signature lyrical elegance and expressive depth.
Mr Rudnytsky, on his 24th tour of Australia, has performed in over 100 countries and with orchestras across six continents.
He recalled his first visit to Australia in 1979, describing how he had stayed in a small hostel and marvelled at the changes over the decades.
“I’ve probably played more concerts in Australia than anywhere else in the world – over 400 at least,” he said, reflecting on his long-standing connection to audiences down under.
Saturday’s concert also held a special educational component, with members of the Cairns Youth Orchestra performing alongside Mr Rudnytsky.
He emphasised the importance of such experiences for young musicians.
“Work with good teachers, study your instrument thoroughly and expose yourself to as much music as possible. It takes time, but dedication and study are key to becoming a well-rounded musician,” he said.
“Classical music has survived for centuries because it has something to say, it speaks to people across time and cultures. Composers today will also find their voice. Music evolves, but its value remains.”
