A council spokesman said at about 12.40pm last Friday, the council was notified there had been sewage runoff into nearby Freshwater Creek.

“The leak occurred due to a blockage in the network causing an overflow and was rectified by crews at about 2pm today (Friday),” he said.

“As a precaution, the council is advising residents not to enter Freshwater Creek downstream of Goomboora Park until further notice.

“(The) council is aware that the area from Goomboora Park to Glenoma Park is particularly popular for dogs – owners are advised that they should not allow their dogs to enter the water.

“Goomboora Park and Glenoma Park areas are safe for use as long as people do not enter Freshwater Creek.

“Do not take fish, shellfish or items from waterways in the affected area and do not enter these waterways.

“Contact with sewage or contaminated waterways, for people and dogs, can cause serious health problems.

“Please observe warning signs and public notices and follow any directions provided by council or state government officers.

“(The) council is testing water regularly and will provide an update when further information becomes available.”
