Start year by volunteering
VOLUNTEERS are being sought by the Port Douglas Community Service Network to assist in a number of areas of work at the Neighbourhood Centre, Nicnak Shed and generally around the community.

“We have a variety of different roles available,” said network community development worker Tracy Gibson (above).
“This includes work in reception, which is basically answering the phone and front desk work, welcoming people when they come into the neighbourhood centre. Simply just being that bubbly face greeting people as they walk through the door,” she said.
Shifts for the role are from 9am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-4pm (Monday to Thursday) and 12:30pm-3pm (Friday).
“We need community transport driver volunteers, which involves driving our clients to appointments such as shopping and generally over the Douglas Shire, as well as some trips to Cairns,” Ms Gibson said.
“Drivers are only required when and if a transport is booked during their availability and they have been asked to do the transport,” she said.
“We are also looking for volunteers at the NicNak Shed to sort out clothes as well as serve customers.”
Times for the role are 9am-4pm (Monday to Thursday), 9am-2.30pm (Friday) and 9.30am- 12.30pm (Saturday).
Playgroup and new parents group volunteers are also required with playgroup times, 9.30am-11.30am (Monday to Wednesday) and the new parents group time 10am-12pm (Thursday).
“Although no experience is required for these roles, all playgroup and new parents group volunteers need to have valid Blue Cards. Community transport drivers need a valid driver’s licence,” Ms Gibson said.
“These roles can also be organised for any time people are available during our business hours 9am to 4pm.
“It is up to people what hours they do.”
