Standout games at weekend
CAIRNS cricket saw standout performances over the weekend in the latest round of local competition.

Norths faced Rovers in a closely contested match, with Norths chasing down a target of 154 to win five wickets down in the 27th over.
For Rovers, Kael Newcomb scored 63 and contributed strongly to the total. North’s Elliot Lord made 51. Cairns Cricket CEO Daniel Freebody said there were no particularly notable bowling performances in the match.
In another double-header, Coby Edmondstone of Norths scored an unbeaten 112 against Atherton, highlighting the talent coming through the Cairns competition.
Mr Freebody also noted the upcoming representative fixtures.
“This coming weekend…we have four players picked in the combined Northern Queensland representative team,” he said. The team, drawing from Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton, will face South Queensland Country sides, including players from Toowoomba, Ipswich, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
The four players selected are Marcus Berryman, Coby Edmondstone, Thomas King and Rhys Johnston.
“These matches are crucial as players aim to be selected in the Queensland Country team, which will compete in the national championships in early January,” Mr Freebody said.
