Marlin Coast Academy Netball Team selections

The Marlin Coast Netball region will select the Marlin Coast academy team this Sunday May 16 at Yorkeys Knob SS starting at 10.30am.

The team of ten (10) players will be chosen from a squad of 24 players aged between 16 and 14yrs. The squad was selected in March and were set a home program of fitness and skill work to prepare them for this Sunday.

The team will have several months to prepare   before they head to Sunshine Coast to spend a weekend with players from The Sunshine Lightning academy, where they will have skill sessions and match play.

The weekend will also include tickets to Suncorp Super Netball game where the group will be able to watch Sunshine Lightning play Sydney team the Giants.

In 2020 with all the COVID restrictions the region were unable to take a team interstate or overseas, the region is now excited that we can resume our travel as part of our academy program.

The Region has been busy since February with 2 rounds of the Ken Frost Homes Premier and Junior Leagues for the 6 associations.  The associations from Mareeba, Tully, Innisfail, Tablelands, Douglas and Cairns used the Leagues to assist with preseason preparation of players and preparing them for selection of local representative teams.

These teams will then have the opportunity to represent their associations at regional and State-wide events;

The Region will host a Fowlers Group Representative carnival in Mareeba on Sunday30thJune when 6 associations will be invited to enter team in the 16/U 14/U and 12/U age groups.

Vicki Wilson Cup and Shield for secondary schools has attracted 31 teams and will be played on Friday June 4that Cairns Netball Association Courts from 8.30 –3.30pm

The finalists of the Cup and Shield will travel to Brisbane to represent Peninsula region at State-wide playoffs in August.
