With the start of the local junior rugby league competition edging closer towards us, 2021 is looking to be a year of anticipation and a little excitement for a few different reasons.

With the COVID-19 situation limiting so many sporting opportunities last year in both senior and junior competitions, many families are looking forward to getting back out on to the parks and fields again to enjoy some sport, and junior rugby league clubs are leading the charge, already recording healthy registration numbers across the region.

One of the major new concepts the NRL are introducing this year is "League Tag" for our U/6 and U/7 age groups, which falls under the "Player Development Framework". The PDF has been extensively researched, and well-resourced, and is aimed at making the game a more positive experience for our youngest participants, with the primary focus being on developing player's skill levels and confidence.

With many children developing at different rates, some aspects of the game can be seem quite challenging for some players. With this in mind, the NRL will put all players through the "Tackle Ready" program delivered by trained Game Development Officers focusing solely on safe contact. The program allows participants to learn safe and correct techniques, preparing them for the tackle version of the game.

If you are looking for a fun, positive and active experience for your child, why not contact a local club to find out how to register or go to playrugbyleague.com for more information.
