Fifita Not Cleared for Sharks
Broncos Coach Anthony Seibold has spoken to the media on changes to the team for Friday night’s game against the Sharks, as well as David Fifita’s planned return date from knee surgery.
“Jake Turpin and Issac Luke are good additions to our squad, Brodie Croft won’t play as he’s got a shoulder injury,” said Seibold.
“We don’t think
it’s anything too long term but her certainly won’t play this week after
hurting it again on Monday at our training session.
“Tom Dearden and Anothny Milford will play in the halves with Darius Boyd moving to fullback.
“David Fifita trained in his full session with the team on Monday and he got through it pretty well. But it was his first session since mid-March so we have erred on the side of caution and he’ll be available to play next week against the Rabbitohs.
“He’ll train today and do an extra session later in the week and then be back in full training with the team next week.”
Seibold also commented on Fifita’s contract decision for 2021: “As a club we are disappointed to lose David, he has been here since he was a teenager but he had a very big decision to make for himself and for his family and we respect that.
“He’s made that decision and now we want to finish the season in a really positive way starting next week with the Bunnies.
“The amount he was offered significant – he’s the highest-paid forward in the game now going forward – there was an opportunity to set himself up financially and we respect that.
“We’ve got a really good working relationship and he’s got a lot of friends here but at the end of the day it was a really tough decision, we respect it and we move forward.”
