Over 10,000 locals and visitors have converged on the Gimuy Boulevard (Cairns Esplanade) each night so far, with thousands more attending the Blak Market Stalls during the day. Attendance figures indicate more than double last year’s turnout.

Festival organisers described the event as “an extraordinary celebration of culture, creativity and connection,” thanking sponsors, artists and the community for helping the festival “shine brighter each year”.

The festival showcases First Nations storytelling, art and performance, with highlights including the Artstory Light Walk.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Fiona Simpson visited the Blak Markets, where stallholders praised her for her genuine warmth and support.

Artistic director Rhoda Roberts received special recognition from the Shine On Productions team for her ongoing dedication and creative vision in bringing the festival to life.

Supported by the Queensland Government’s Office for Women, Shine On Gimuy celebrates North Queensland’s rich cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The festival’s growing success reflects the community’s strong connection to Country and commitment to honouring First Nations culture through art, music and shared experience.
