Second-hand never looked this good on the catwalk
MORE than 100 people have supported the 15th running of the popular NicNak Shed fashion parade at the Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort and Spa.
A sunny but windy day did not deter numerous locals from donning a selection of outfits, all supplied by the NicNak Shed.
MC and local resident Diane Demetre took on the role for the first time bringing plenty of energy and fun to the runway.
Guest speaker Renea Kunda shared an inspiring story about her journey as the woman behind the scenes of a thriving tourism business.
“As always, the day would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers, from modelling and getting everyone runway-ready, to working behind the scenes and selling raffle tickets,” said NicNak shed manager Jo Westgate.
“A special thank you to LJ Kidd for, once again, keeping our models looking fabulous with her hairdressing skills,” she said.
“This year we introduced a new segment supporting our local boutiques. Local businesses were invited to provide a piece for the runway, showcasing the wonderful shopping available right here in Port Douglas.”
One particular message that organisers of this year’s event wished to get across was to shop locally, support small business and think twice before buying fast fashion.
“The fast-fashion industry is contributing to enormous amounts of waste ending up in landfill, while our local businesses offer unique, quality and more sustainable choices,” Ms Westgate said.
The parade raised $3000 which will help support the Port Douglas Community Service Network, including the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre and NicNak Shed.
“It was another wonderful NicNak Shed day filled with fashion, fun, community and plenty of laughs,” Ms Westgate said.
