Scouts celebrate 40th birthday
THE Northern Beaches Scout Group is inviting the local community to join in celebrating 40 years of the organisation.
Tomorrow (Saturday 19 September), the group will open the doors of its scout den in Leisure Park Rd from 9am-2pm for a special 40th anniversary open day.
Group leader Matthew Dalli said the free community event would give visitors of all ages the opportunity to experience the fun, adventure and friendships that scouting had provided to generations of young people over the past four decades.
“The day will be packed with hands-on activities and opportunities for community involvement, including a tent pitching competition, camp oven scone making, rope bridges, marshmallow roasting and a ‘Don’t crack the egg’ challenge,” he said.
“Visitors will also be able to explore a display of scouting memorabilia, celebrating the group’s history and looking back at the people, activities and adventures that have helped shape the Northern Beaches Scout Group over the past 40 years.
“One of the highlights of the day will be the opportunity to meet and chat with past and present leaders, reconnect with members of the Northern Beaches Scout Group community and share stories and memories from the group’s 40-year history, while also looking ahead to the future of scouting in the Northern Beaches community.
“The open day will also provide an opportunity for families interested in scouting to learn more about what the Northern Beaches Scout Group has to offer.
“We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating 40 years of scouting.”
Entry to the open day is free. Visitors are simply encouraged to wear closed-in shoes, bring a sense of adventure and be ready to have a go.
