‘DREAMTIME by the Sea’ has been the jewel in the crown of AFL Cairns’ indigenous round for several years with another glorious outing at Holloways Beach enjoyed by a large crowd on Saturday, and the Lions didn’t disappoint, with a solid win over the North Cairns Tigers.

The win keeps the Lions in contention for finals, sitting just outside the top four in fifth place on the ladder and now a game clear of the Tigers.

Eric Cox and Jordan Frew starred for the Lions with 28 disposals apiece, with playing coach Scott Riordan having a day out in front of the sticks with five goals.

The very versatile Louis Campbell-Kossack finished with 26 touches and two goals for the Tigers while teammate Jahmahl Jenkins-Clive also performed well with 25 disposals.

Cairns Saints 16.14.110 def Centrals Trinity Beach 12.09.81

COMING off a big loss to Port Douglas last week, Cairns Saints entered this match very much the underdogs, despite sitting on the same number of wins and only one spot behind Centrals on the ladder.

In front of a lively crowd at Griffiths Park, the Saints turned it on for their fans in a match that could have gone either way for three and a half quarters.

Chris Tidswell booted four goals for the Saints and was well supported by Zac Straker who picked up 21 touches and two goals while teammate Campbell Hooker notched up 25 disposals and a couple of goals as well.

For the Bulldogs, ball-magnet Kieran Lovell had 29 disposals while last year’s Matt Walsh medallist, Josh Butland, booted four majors.

The win will give the Saints an enormous amount of confidence as they leapfrog the Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs on the ladder, sitting a game clear in third position.

Manunda Hawks 01.07.13 def by Port Douglas Crocs 27.14.176

IT was a tough day at the office for the winless Manunda Hawks at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday, going down to the undefeated league leaders Port Douglas Crocs with a result that surprised precisely no-one.

The highlight of the day was watching two former AFL legends run around with the

Hawks, former quadruple premiership player Isaac Smith and his triple premiership teammate Liam Shiels, both picking up 25 disposals apiece.

The Hawks Joel Callaghan also had an impressive game with 25 touches and seven marks, including a mark of the year contender with a huge grab in the last quarter.

The usual suspects of Short, Petrenko, McKeown and Fairclough racked up 114 disposals between them for the Crocs with goal scoring machine Kye Chappel bagging eight majors to move into second place on the goal kicking ladder, just behind Josh Butland from Centrals.
