The event, ‘Writing the Next Chapter’, will be held on Tuesday 14 July at 7pm AEST and is open to the public.

Ms Nancarrow, a former ABC journalist of 15 years, will discuss her experience of leaving journalism while recovering from depression and PTSD and how the transition changed the direction of her life and career.

She is the author of ‘Himalayan Dreams’, which tells the story of Som Tamang and his work supporting women and girls in Nepal. Ms Nancarrow is also the founder of Women in Media Far North Queensland and director of Regional Media Training.

Organisers said the session would focus on resilience, reinvention and women supporting women.

Incoming president Suzanne Rath, a Cairns-based speaker, leadership consultant and founder of Wellness Embodied, said the event would launch the club’s empowerHER speaker series for 2026.

“Our club exists because the conversation around empowering women and girls deserves more than one day a year, for the local community,” she said.
