This year, the Cairns Rotary Club was chosen as the beneficiary.

Lui Garozzo, representing Angela’s Fine Foods, the Cairns agent for Illy Coffee, handed over the cheque for $2420 on behalf of the company.

Mr Garozzo, who has been involved with the festival since its founding, said the donation highlighted the strong community spirit behind the event.

“Illy Coffee provides expert baristas, top-quality equipment and all takings from the stall go straight back to the community,” he said.

“This year, the Rotary Club was an obvious choice because of the incredible work they do locally.”

Rotary members expressed their gratitude for the support.

Michael Schramm, a past president with over 25 years’ involvement, said “we’re very grateful to the Italian Festival and Illy Coffee”.

“The funds will be directed towards domestic violence prevention and education, which are our focus this year,” he said.
