Relay for Life this weekend
FAR North Queenslanders are being invited to lace up their walking shoes for the FNQ Relay For Life at Barlow Park on Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August, raising funds for Cancer Council research, prevention and support services.
The event will begin at 1.30pm on Saturday and continue through to 10am on Sunday, bringing together survivors, carers, families and supporters for the overnight community relay.
Relay For Life is designed to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors and people currently experiencing cancer, while also honouring loved ones who have died from the disease. Funds raised help support Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services.
There are 622 people taking part in 54 teams with the aim of raising $125,000. So far $82,827 has been raised.
To date Queensland X-Ray 2026 team has raised the most – $13,233, followed by St Augustine College ($7507), Helen’s Heroes ($5987), St Mary’s Catholic College ($4748) and Dance Junction ($3713).
The event will be held at Barlow Park, 251–269 Severin Street, Parramatta Park. Registration costs are $35 for adults, $20 for youth and $93 for families.

Relay for Life originated in the USA in May 1985. Since then, it has become the largest fundraising event for cancer in the world, celebrated by more than four million people in over 20 countries.
It started in Australia in 1999 when Murrumbeena raised over $75,000. Since more then $14m is raised annually by 134,000 participants.
