Rangers demolish Edge Hill 6-1
Marlin Coast Rangers made a thunderous statement in their FQPL Champions League debut last Saturday night (May 3), demolishing Edge Hill United 6–1 in front of a buzzing home crowd at Pennell Field in Trinity Beach.

It was a dominant and dynamic display from the reigning league champions, with Josh Taylor and Josh Pin each bagging a brace, Cooper Kennedy adding another, and an early own goal helping MCR on their way.
MCR struck early in the 14th minute after Fabrice Kouby threaded a smart ball into Taylor, whose dangerous cross was turned into his own net by Edge Hill defender Victor Gill under pressure from Kennedy. Just three minutes later, Taylor and Kennedy combined again — Sam Humphries slipped a pass into Taylor, who flicked cleverly around the corner for Kennedy to slot home for 2–0.
Pin got on the scoresheet in the 26th minute, latching onto a delicious chipped through ball from James Corrigan before calmly finishing around the keeper with his left foot.
Drama unfolded just before the break when Kennedy was fouled inside the box, resulting in a straight red card for Edge Hill defender Jessy Medina. Pin stepped up and buried the penalty to put Coast 4–0 ahead at halftime.
Edge Hill pulled one back early in the second half via a scrappy finish following a set piece, but MCR quickly reasserted control. In the 61st minute, Pin sent a defender sliding with a clever feint before floating a cross to the back post, where Taylor volleyed home for MCR’s fifth.
The final word belonged again to Taylor, who capped off the night in style in the 90th minute — Jake Broomhead drove forward and slipped a pass into Taylor, who danced past the keeper to seal a superb 6–1 win.
MCR will now face MA Olympic in round 2 of the FQPL Champions League, with the match to be played in Townsville in July.
