The volunteer-run venue has launched its ‘Amplify the Amphi’ campaign to reduce equipment hire costs and support more affordable live music, festivals, theatre and community events.

As part of the campaign, residents across Cairns, Kuranda and the Tablelands are invited to share their favourite memories from the venue’s nearly 50-year history.

The 3000-capacity outdoor amphitheatre, built by the community in the Kuranda rainforest, has hosted major Australian and international acts, including INXS, Midnight Oil, Silverchair, Paul Kelly, and Mumford & Sons.

Kuranda Amphitheatre Society president Brioni McGrath said the campaign was about celebrating the venue’s history and securing its future.

To mark the occasion, the amphitheatre will host a free community celebration featuring live music, circus arts and local comedy from 5.30pm to 9pm.
