Race almost chockers
ENTRIES in the 67th Woolworths Great Pyramid Race are almost full.
The countdown for the event comes as organisers unveiled the official 2026 race singlet, a special design celebrating 150 years of Cairns.
Race president and event coordinator Renee Edwards said, unlike previous years where competitors received a new colour each year, the 2026 singlet featured a unique commemorative pattern inspired by the region and created to recognise this significant milestone in Cairns’ history.
“With two weeks until race day, registrations are already more than 92% full for the flagship Woolworths Great Pyramid Race, with organisers encouraging anyone considering entering to register as soon as possible before remaining places sell out,” she said.
“The 2026 event is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the race’s history.
“The Great Pyramid Race has been bringing people together for 67 years and we’re incredibly proud to celebrate both this remarkable event and Cairns’ 150th anniversary through this year’s singlet design.
“Every year we look forward to welcoming runners from all over to Gordonvale.
“Whether you’re chasing the summit, taking on one of our shorter events, checking out the huge markets or simply coming along to cheer, it’s a fantastic day for the whole community.”
The race has become one of Far North Queensland’s most iconic sporting events, attracting competitors from across Australia and overseas to take on the challenge of racing to the summit of Walshs Pyramid and back.
The event continues to grow in popularity and has become a major community celebration featuring multiple race distances, family activities, markets and entertainment.
The race is on Saturday 1 August at Norman Park, Gordonvale and features events for elite athletes, recreational runners, families and children.
