The organisation has launched a new initiative to showcase the real faces behind junior basketball in Cairns, celebrating the passion, diversity and enthusiasm of local children who love the game.

A spokesman said successful participants would be selected as the official faces of junior basketball for 2026, with their images featured across Cairns Basketball marketing and promotional materials throughout the year.

“As part of the program, winning families will also receive professional photography of their children, providing participants with a keepsake and supporting the promotion of junior basketball in the region,” he said.

The initiative is open to children aged six to 11 years, born between 2014 and 2019 inclusive. Applicants must be registered players with a Cairns Basketball team to be eligible.

“Cairns Basketball is encouraging young players who enjoy being involved in the sport and representing their club and community to consider applying,” the spokesman said.

“Applications require families to submit three unedited headshot photos of the child, along with one landscape video of the child explaining why they love basketball. The video must be at least 30 seconds long and no longer than three minutes,” he said.

“An independent judging panel, separate from Cairns Basketball, will assess all entries.”

The spokesman said this approach would ensure a fair and transparent selection process for all applicants.

“The initiative forms part of Cairns Basketball’s broader efforts to highlight junior participation and celebrate the role young players play in the local basketball community,” he said.

“Families interested in applying are encouraged to review the complete details and submission requirements before entering.”
