Postie always gets through
THROUGH rain and shine, flood and cyclone … the postman always delivers the mail.
Seventy years ago, in the 1950s, this postman delivered his bundle of mail on foot or by bicycle around Cairns regardless of flood, high tides, humidity or strong winds.
With no raincoat to keep them dry and balancing the load on the handlebars or panniers, it was a matter of keep on peddling and wear your hat.
Since the early 1980s Australia Post rolled out their new improved delivery service using the very reliable and zippy, red Honda CT110.
On any day the arrival of the post was accompanied by the noise of the engine and the bark of every dog in the street.
Nowadays with its shade cover and large parcel carrier, mode of transport has come a long way for the humble postman.
They now use three wheeled e-trikes which quietly deliver both mail and parcels around the community. Remember to wave your hand at your local postie and thank them for the good work they do in keeping communities connected across the globe.
