Popular Ergon roles up for grabs
ASPIRING electrical apprentices have a chance to join Ergon across the state with positions available throughout the Far North.

Ergon is looking for about 125 new recruits to start in February 2027.
Roles include an apprentice distribution role in Innisfail, Atherton and Mareeba (also an electrotechnology electrician role in Mareeba) and Cairns (which also offers an eletrotechnology electrician and a mechanical fitter positions).
Apprentice program development coordinator Jeremey Bailey said Ergon Energy Network and Energex were offering a range of trade types at diverse locations across Queensland, including metropolitan, rural and remote areas.
“We received around 7500 applications for apprenticeships last year and what we look for is potential because we will train you and give you all the tools and support you need to be successful,” he said.
“You do need to do some homework – we appreciate it when people do their research on our website and take a genuine interest in the trade and location they’re applying for.
“This is a career opportunity you don’t want to miss, with generous pay and conditions, world-class training and a commitment to your health and safety.”
Ergon and Energex are encouraging applicants to consider lesser-known trades, like distribution or transmission linesperson and communications technician, as well as depots outside Queensland’s major centres. “60% of our apprentice intake for 2027 will be in rural or remote locations, so by thinking outside the square you can improve your chances of securing an apprenticeship with extra allowances and leave,” Mr Bailey said.
