Cairns Regional Council will progress the Ellis Beach northern carpark upgrade after approval at Wednesday’s ordinary meeting.

The project includes 70 new parking bays, comprising disability parking and long-vehicle spaces, along with a dedicated turnaround area for large buses.

Council will also deliver complementary works, including upgraded beach access paths, dune protection fencing, signs and a new 18m pedestrian bridge over Spring Creek, providing a safe connection between the northern and central carparks.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026, with measures in place to minimise public disruption.

The upgrade supports community safety, accessibility and environmental protection while contributing to local employment and aligning with the broader Ellis Beach landscape and foreshore improvement plan.

The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.
