With categories such as ‘The Best Dressed Dog Beach Parade, the event’s furry competitors and their proud owners met at Reynolds Park on Garrick Street and paraded their way to the Port Douglas Surf Club via Four Mile Beach.

For just a $5 donation entry, both owners and onlookers enjoyed a barbecue, dog treats, free bubble play and face painting, as well as a raffle and a 100 lucky paws square board with a chance to win $1000 cash.

Sponsored by Ray White Port Douglas and Port Douglas Vets for Paws and Claws, there were 47 entries, which raised just under $5000 for the local Paws and Claws animal shelter.

“This Port Douglas Carnivale event just keeps growing every year, in terms of support for Paws and Claws and also the good times it provides,” said Cassie Flinn from Ray White Port Douglas.

“It’s fuelled by smiles, donations and volunteers,” Ms Flinn said. “It’s a community truly changing the lives of animals in need.”

After the completion of the parade and judging, a number of category winners were announced, including chihuahuas Skipper and Chelsea named as best dressed dogs alongside owner Amanda and the best dog trick was awarded to Titoodle Alfie with trainer Estella.
