PD Radar started duty in Cairns in 2018 and proudly served the Far Northern community for seven years.

In 2024, PD Radar hung up his lead to spend his retirement with the Buckle family.

Handler Senior Constable Glen Buckle (above with Radar) was the dog’s handler for his entire service.

“It was a slow start that ended in a remarkable finish with PD Radar,” he said.

“Radar was a slow learner and needed extra patience and support in the beginning, but with persistence and trust his true potential shone through.

“Radar’s natural talent and his relentless drive shone through making him a truly exceptional police detection dog.”

Among his achievements was locating almost $1 million dollars in cash – the proceeds allegedly linked to drug trafficking and supply.
