A Douglas Shire Council spokesman said officers inspected the track on 22 July following maintenance, recovery works and recent wet weather and “is pleased to advise that the track is now open”.

“Please note that the CREB Track is suitable for 4WD vehicles only and is not suitable for towing trailers, campervans or caravans,” the spokesman said.

“Track conditions can change rapidly and even small amounts of rainfall may cause the surface to become extremely slippery and difficult to navigate.

“Drivers are encouraged to check weather conditions before travelling.

“Please remember that it only takes a light shower for the track to become impassable.

Where possible, carry appropriate recovery equipment, travel in a convoy and ensure you have adequate food and water.”
