With the momentum from their first win, Pride are now gearing up for the postponed round 1 match at home against the Brisbane Tigers tomorrow. This is an opportunity for Pride to start going up the ladder, they currently sit second to last at 14 with the Tigers sitting at 13.

The Tigers will aim to recover after losing last weekend’s match against the Central Queensland Capras 34-20 and hope their offense carries them all the way.

Pride’s head coach Russ Aitken said this was a result the team expected after week’s of increasingly good footy.

“The result wasn’t a surprise – the score probably was a bit of a surprise – but it really is what we’ve been saying and talking about, what the boys know they’ve been putting out in their footy for three games now has resulted in a win this week,” he said.

“I think we went after our defence a hell of a lot at the start of the game which set up our game really well.

“We had a lot of character throughout the game which allowed us to sustain those good periods of footy that I’ve been talking about. It was really pleasing and I’m really proud of the boys because being zero out of five at the start of the season can bring a little bit of outside noise, some doubt could creep in but the boys didn’t let it creep in.

“So I’m really happy for the boys, to get a reward for all the effort they’ve been putting over the first six rounds of the competition.”

Mr Aitken said the team was very motivated for the home game tomorrow and ready to go against a strong Tigers.

“We’re feeling good and if we look at the last month of footy our performances have been steadily improving and there’s no reason for that to change,” he said.

“The Tigers have a couple of leaders in their pack like Joe Stimson who has NRL experience, some big bodies, little bit of offloading from their pack so we definitely need to go after our defence.

“If you take the weekend’s performance and everything, we’ve done over the past months, when we go after our defence but when we front load our energy into our kick sprint and really go after each moment in defence. That’s the strength of our team.”
