Netballers all set for season
CAIRNS Netball will hold its season launch and club sign-on day on Saturday 31 January 2026, as the organisation prepares for the upcoming winter season.

The launch will run from 9am to 11am at the Cairns Netball Association and aims to bring together players, clubs, volunteers and families ahead of the new competition year.
Cairns Netball operations manager Charmian Campbell said the launch marked the start of the season, which officially begins in March.
“Season launch will be for players, umpires, volunteers, our NetSetGo program, which is for our juniors, who are from five years of age and have not played before.”
The morning will give community members the chance to meet clubs, collect information and sign on for teams, while also watching activities involving representative players and their coaches.
Younger children will be able to take part in fun ball games, with information available about the NetSetGo program designed for fun, skill development and friendship.
Ms Campbell said the launch was significant for welcoming new participants and volunteers into the sport.
“This is an opportunity for the community, so anyone who hasn’t been involved in netball can come and learn about what roles are available,” she said.

“We’re really trying to encourage volunteers to come and be part of our community. They don’t need to play netball or even have had experience with netball before.”
She said the event was also vital for introducing young children to the sport before they reach competition age.
“It’s really important that we allow those young people to come and start learning those skills,” she said.
The launch is open to boys, girls, men and women, with Cairns Netball offering competitions across multiple age groups, including boys and men.
Ms Campbell said the season was about connection and community.
“This is about helping young people grow and develop,” she said.
“It’s helping older people enjoy and want to do something for fun.
“I think it’s about being connected. And that common element is netball.”
The season launch marks the first step towards the 2026 winter season, with sign-ons and information sessions designed to ensure clubs, players and volunteers are ready for the year ahead.
