Matt Clarke from Jai Yen Muay Thai, Townsville, captured the featherweight WBC Australian title, defeating the reigning champion, Cale Wild.

At the same time, Cairns’ own Quinton ‘Da Hitman’ Smith from Athlete Muay Thai claimed the middleweight WBC Australian title with a spectacular front kick knockout just 20 seconds into the first round against Tome Kokarevski.

Chris Bowtell of Explosive Fight Promotions described the night as “another highly successful night with a massive turnout and incredible support not only from Cairns but also from Townsville and surrounding regions.” About 1000 spectators attended and fans across Australia were able to watch via Live Combat Sports’ streaming service.

The action kicked off early, with the undercard starting at 4pm, featuring amateur Muay Thai fighters who put on exciting performances. The main card showcased North Queensland’s best professional talent matched against formidable opponents who travelled from across the nation.

Mr Bowtell highlighted the fight of the night, awarded to two female fighters who battled intensely, with one competitor sustaining five facial fractures. In that fight, Hannah Dayes defeated Claire Kearney.

Elite Cage Fighting returns to Cairns next year.
