David was born with cerebral palsy, but his family did not believe in wrapping him in cotton wool.

From a young age, he was encouraged to get out there and have a go. He played sport, drove cars and got into a bit of mischief just like any other young bloke.

His gait might have been a bit “wonky,” but that never stopped him from taking on the world.

Fast forward a few decades, and like many others living with a disability or long-term injury, David has faced the added challenge of getting older.

Aging brings change for everyone, but for those already living with a physical condition, these changes can hit harder. The body that has adapted for years to move differently starts to protest. Over time, the parts that have done extra work begin to protest. Pain and fatigue become familiar companions.

But David is not one to sit still. Recognising how important the right support can be, he teamed up with physiotherapist Helen Cooper and opened Peak Mobility and Rehab.

The goal was simple: to make life easier for people facing mobility challenges, whether through aging, disability or injury.

David knew firsthand that independence means everything – the ability to move freely, to stay social and to keep doing the things that give life meaning.

At Peak Mobility and Rehab, David and his team have created a place where people can, not only talk about their challenges, but also try out real solutions.

Every aid or piece of equipment in the showroom – from mobility scooters to walkers, lift chairs and wheelchairs – is something David himself understands and has tested. That firsthand experience means customers get genuine advice, not just sales talk.

What makes David’s story special is his empathy. His lived experience gives him a unique understanding of what works, what doesn’t and what can truly make a difference in day-to-day life.

Through Peak Mobility and Rehab, David has turned his personal challenges into a source of strength for others, helping people find freedom, comfort and confidence – one mobility solution at a time.

The opening of a new store in Bungalow will make it easier for Cairns residents and therapists to find and trial equipment.

The original Gordonvale store in Bryce’s Arcade continues to serve the southern region under the care of Annette Beu, who brings years of expertise and local understanding – ensuring ongoing, accessible service for communities across Innisfail and the Atherton Tablelands.
