Mill land sales but main site remains
THE main site of the former Mossman Mill is still on the table despite surrounding land parcels being snapped up since they were divided into individual lots late last year.

An 8ha industrial site and an 8ha rural parcel have been sold, while a 4.7ha industrial site on Ingles St featuring a weighbridge, two residential dwellings and two sheds is under contract.
Liquidator John Goggin confirmed the sales this week, but said there was nothing official to report on the main site, although he hoped to provide more information in the “near future”.
Colliers Cairns managing director Stacey Quaid said there had been “active engagement” over the main mill site that was once the lifeblood of the cane farming town.
“It is one of the few brownfield sites with a broad regional area to provide supply,” he said.
“The size of the site under roof and over concrete is substantial and, while some of the plant and machinery requires upgrading, other parts remain functional.
“It has existing approvals, water licences and it’s surrounded by a huge growing area.”
The 18ha site includes the mill factory, installed plant, industrial sheds, office buildings and seven residential dwellings.
“There’s been some good discussions from potential new industry to make use of the site,” Mr Quaid said, listing biofuels and different crops among the options being mooted. The mill was placed into voluntary administration in November 2023.
