Mental health walk
THE third annual Lift the Lid Walk for Mental Health is being held on the Cairns Esplanade later this month.

This relaxed, family-friendly event invites the community to walk, talk and show support for mental health awareness and research on Sunday 12 October, with registration opening at 7am and the walk starting at 8am from the pirate ship playground.
“This isn’t a race – it’s a movement,” said Rotary community leader Sam Dyer.
“The Lift the Lid Walk is about bringing people together to start conversations, support one another and raise funds for vital mental health research,” he said.
Mr Dyer said there were 2.5km or 5km distances and dogs on leashes were encouraged.
“With one-in-five Australians experiencing a mental health disorder, these events provide a safe and inclusive space to break down stigma, encourage open conversations and honour loved ones lost to mental illness,” he said.
“Many participants wear custom shirts in memory of someone special.” Funds raised go to Australian Rotary Health.
