Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre hosted the event made possible due to a funding grant from Neighbourhood Centres and Queensland Health.

Overseen by the Port Douglas Community Service Network (PDCSN), presentations were provided by five guest speakers from a range of modalities, including a doctor, a registered nurse, a naturopath, a pelvic floor physio and a menopause coach.

Each of the speakers provided a brief presentation on some of their observations around menopause symptoms and treatment. Questions were also taken from the floor by the experts.

“The fact that this event sold out well over a week beforehand and we had a waiting list, indicates that we certainly have a need in our community for opportunities like this,” said community development worker Chrissie Gilewicz.

“This was a great opportunity for people to come together and gain information and share stories in an informal and friendly atmosphere,” she said.

“Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

“If you are experiencing symptoms of menopause or beyond, as some of these symptoms can continue to impact us into old age, don’t think there is nothing that can be done. Please speak with your health professional.”

A number of useful online resources were discovered during the preparation for this event. People interested in these details or for those who may have missed the day, they can contact Ms Gilewicz for a copy at chrissy@pdnc.org.au
