Medical centre in harmony
A MULTIMILLION-dollar, privately-funded healthcare facility has opened in Bungalow, expanding a Cairns medical practice from two to six GPs and creating five other new local jobs.
Husband-and-wife GPs Dr Gagandeep (Gagan) Rajpal and Dr Rajlakshmi (Raj) Rajpal officially opened Harmony Family Medical Centre’s new purpose-built facility last week.
Founded in 2022, Harmony Family Medical Centre is a family-owned, bulk-billing practice. Dr Rajpal said the centre was established to improve access to quality healthcare.
“Harmony was founded on the belief that quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone. We wanted to create a practice where patients aren’t just treated – they’re known, listened to and supported through every stage of life,” he said.
Dr Raj said the private investment was intended to increase the practice’s capacity.
“It has been a multimillion-dollar private investment, but for us, this was never simply about building a bigger building. It was about creating the capacity to care for more people.”
The practice provides women’s health, children’s health, men’s health, chronic disease management, Indigenous health, mental health, preventive healthcare, wound care, diabetes education, iron infusions, travel medicine, telehealth and minor procedures. Same-day appointments are available where possible.
Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is also located on-site and the existing Harmony premises will be refurbished to accommodate allied health providers. The new facility has also been designed to accommodate a future community pharmacy.
