Massive rubbish fire at Portsmith
A MASSIVE fire has gutted the Bedminster alternative waste treatment facility at Portsmith.

UPDATE at 10am
QUEENSLAND Fire and Rescue (QFR) crews remain at the scene of the large structure fire on Ray Jones Dr and Lyons St, Portsmith.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said crews worked through the night to contain the fire, which broke out on Thursday evening.
"Multiple fire crews are working to fully extinguish the fire, which is producing a large amount of smoke in the area," he said.
"Smoke is expected to continue to affect the surrounding areas today.
"Residents should close windows and doors and keep respiratory medications close by if required.
"Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions".
No one was injured as a result of the fire which started at 8pm yesterday and many crews and firefighters were at the scene overnight and remain this morning.
The Portsmith transfer station and the buyback shop are closed today.
Mayor Amy Eden said fire and council crews were on site this morning to begin assessing the damage once it was safe to do so.
“We know the fire started at approximately 8pm last night,” she said.
“Thank you to the amazing firies who were on site very quickly and worked to contain the blaze and keep it under control throughout the night.
“Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the fire.
“Plans are already in place to ensure there is no disruption to kerbside collection, pending any further issues.
“It's too early to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities and (the) council will conduct an investigation when safe to do so.
“Residents are asked to avoid the area.
“We'll provide more information when it is available”.
