AN unloved nine-level hotel has been transformed over two years after a $3 million transformation and name change.

Gone is the Sunshine Tower and welcome to Alivio Hotel Cairns.

The 61-room property has been reimagined by the award-winning Alivio Group – a growing collection of hotels and tourist parks in Canberra, Brisbane and Cairns – into a premium destination for business and holiday travellers.

Alivio Group managing director Mark Whitby said the two-year transformation had redefined the hotel’s comfort, design and guest experience, reflecting the company’s commitment to elevated, locally-led hospitality.

“Our vision was to create a space that combines contemporary elegance with the natural beauty of Cairns, offering a memorable stay for both corporate and leisure travellers. We believe we have achieved this and more,” he said.

But the group is not stopping with just one tower. There are plans for a second building on a site acquired next door.

With inspired design and high-quality furnishings that reflect the city’s natural heritage and tropical surroundings, guests will enjoy a new level of comfort in tastefully appointed rooms with views of the gardens, pool or scenic Cairns mountains.

The hotel’s entrance and lobby have been redesigned into a sophisticated and welcoming space, featuring the convenience of The Lobby Bar and Kitchen – an on-site restaurant and cocktail bar open seven days a week for breakfast.

Set among lush tropical gardens adorned with fragrant frangipanis, the Mediterranean-inspired pool area provides a luxurious outdoor escape where guests can refresh in the pool, relax in the sun, or shade on one of the hotel’s vibrant, cushioned sun loungers after a long day in the boardroom or while exploring the region.

The transformation also included:

A complete refresh of all common areas with distinctive photographic feature walls reflecting Cairns’ tropical allure

New glass balustrades on guest room balconies enhance the property’s aesthetic appeal

A revitalised dining experience at The Lobby Bar and Kitchen – currently serving a daily breakfast buffet and cocktails until late.

Improved environmental credentials of the hotel in line with Alivio Group’s ‘Go Green’ initiatives, including installation of a 100kW solar system.

Mr Whitby said the rebranding and significant upgrade of the venue greatly enhanced the tourism and hospitality scene in Cairns and Far North Queensland.

He said the hotel’s stylish aesthetic, complete with modern amenities and outstanding dining and relaxation areas, made it a top choice for domestic and international visitors.

Mr Whitby said the hotel offered a range of services and amenities designed to meet and exceed the needs of discerning guests.
