Locals to advise on new trail
LOCALS are being enlisted to shape the $15.5 million extension of the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park Trail.

A new advisory council met for the first time last week and included key stakeholders from Cairns Regional Council, Cairns Mountain Bike Club, James Cook University and Tourism Tropical North Queensland.
Environment and Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the upgrade would help make Queensland a world leader in ecotourism.
He said the government was determined to delivering the “world-class eco-tourism product”.
Cairns Mountain Bike Club president Rachael White said the club was excited to be working towards stronger partnerships, better, safer trail access and preserving iconic natural spaces for everyone to enjoy.
“We welcome this long overdue opportunity and very much look forward to collaboration from the whole advisory committee for the chance to share ideas, give feedback and help shape the next chapter for our trails,” she said.
Ms White said the club had a long history of working with land managers and maintaining trails in Cairns and wanted to ensure their riders’ voice mattered to make the track better.
