Chapter president ‘Mad’ Max Frances said central to their achievements was the Afghanistan Avenue of Honour Ride, held for 11 consecutive years, which honoured those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.

“It’s about remembrance, community and respect. People come because it matters,” he said. “The award reflects the chapter’s dedication to the well-being of veterans and current serving personnel and its impact locally, nationally, and internationally, demonstrating how service, compassion and community leadership can make a lasting difference.

“The chapter's work has also gained national recognition, with the Australian War Memorial in Canberra featuring the Cairns chapter in a filmed presentation shown daily to visitors in the exhibits.

“Beyond being active in the Defence community, the Cairns chapter quietly supports forgotten veterans, offering practical help and companionship without expectation.”

“The club supports veterans, current serving members and their families through community engagement, remembrance events and charitable initiatives, proudly showcasing their military and riding heritage,” he said.

Mr Frances was also named Queensland state patriot of the year.

The chapter is attending the ‘Thank you for your service’ sold-out gala dinner at the Cairns Convention Centre tomorrow night.
