Local design for Douglas 150 logo
OVER the last five years the ‘Goss’ has celebrated the many skills of residents across the Douglas Shire, from sport to music, acting and to the arts in general.
Our Shire, without any doubt, has an abundance of talent.
Just recently, locals were given the chance to showcase their artistic and design skills with a challenge to design the official logo for next year’s 150th anniversary celebrations of the Douglas Shire.
I am now pleased to confirm that a new logo, capturing the natural beauty of the Douglas Shire, has now been unveiled ahead of the region’s 150-year commemoration celebrations.
Created by local designer Lisa Previte, the winning design was selected from a strong field of entries submitted to council’s Douglas 150 logo competition.
The Bamboo resident, whose family has deep generational ties to the region, said she was honoured to have her design chosen to represent the milestone event.
“The inspiration came from the incredible natural environment we are surrounded by every day,” Ms Previte said.
“We’ve got the Reef, the beaches, coastline, gorges and creeks. Nature has such a strong influence on our lifestyle and the beauty of living in Douglas.
“I think it’s important to commemorate our history, reflect on our past, appreciate where we are today and look ahead with optimism for the future.”
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the design perfectly captured the character and identity of the region.
“We wanted a logo that reflected the relaxed tropical lifestyle, natural beauty and strong sense of community that make Douglas Shire such a special place to live and visit and Lisa’s design achieved that beautifully,” Cr Scomazzon said.
“The logo will become a recognisable symbol of the Douglas 150 celebrations and help bring our community together throughout this significant milestone year.
“Congratulations to Lisa on creating a design that will be proudly showcased across the shire as we mark 150 years of our shared story” she said.
The Douglas 150 logo will feature prominently in promotional material, events and activities throughout the year, as well as on a range of commemorative merchandise.
“Douglas 150 merchandise will give residents and visitors the opportunity to be part of the celebrations and take home a lasting memento of this historic occasion,” Cr Scomazzon said.
“Keep an eye out for announcements on when the merchandise becomes available.”
Writing the weekly ‘Goss’ is always a pleasure and this one was certainly special as we all look forward to a very special year in 2027. This story just gives us a taste of what to expect and how locals will be able to get involved.
I’m off to discover more individuals making or have made the Shire what it is today. No doubt many of whom will be celebrated at next year’s commemoration.
